Hip Joint Replacement /
Birmingham Hip Resurfacing Patient Testimonials:-
British Patient
on his Birmingham Hip Resurfacing surgery, cataract surgery and
his wife's Lasik surgery in India @ Jaslok Hospital
India doesn't export its best doctors !
Early this year I was diagnosed as needing a hip replacement for
my left hip.
Aged 71, we had cancelled our private Health Insurance partly due
to the high cost for me and my wife (aged 72) but mainly because,
as a Type 2 Diabetic, about the only things I would have been covered
for were Hip and knee replacements and Cancer.
The following options were available:
1. Waiting possibly until January 2006 for an NHS operation with
the risk of MRSA.
2. Private Treatment at a local Hospital which I calculated would
have cost circa £17,500 (having already paid £1,400
for X-rays and MRI Scan and consultation with the Surgeon). I was
booked to have my hip replacement on the 4th April 2005 but suffered
a mild Heart Attack on Easter Sunday the 27th March, as a result
of which I came out of Kingston Hospital within 3 days and checked
myself into the local private hospital for an angiogram (quoted
at circa £1,000 including one night in hospital) followed
by an Angioplasty the following day (quoted at circa £3,000
by the Consultant) and charged at over £6,000 by the hospital,
with whom I am now in dispute. Including the Doctors Fees, etc the
total cost for 2 nights in the private hospital was £10,500.
I rebelled at this and sought an alternative venue for my hip operation.
3.This resulted in finding The Horder Centre in Crowborough, East
Sussex where I was quoted just under £9,000 and I arranged
for the 26th July, as I had to wait as least 3 months because of
the Heart Attack. The Horder Centre is a dedicated centre for Arthritis
and hip and knee replacements, but does not have full emergency
operating facilities, in case I had had another Heart Attack whilst
under general aesthetic.
On the 25th June there was an article in the Mail concerning a
British Businessman who was quoted a 17 month wait for back surgery
and who had decided to go to India which was going to cost including
first class air fares under £9,000.
I immediately followed this up on searching medical tours in India
Web Site and ended up with Mediescapes India in New Delhi, India
and their medical services in India website
www.mediescapes.com, who after seeing my sent X-rays and MRI Scan sent by DHL recommended
that I have my Hip Replacement at Mumbai (formerly Bombay) with
Dr Ameet Pispati in the Jaslok Hospital at a cost of £5,511
including 14 nights in hospital because of appointment dates issues.
This was accepted by us as my wife was travelling with me and she
had also decided to have both eyes treated with Lasik surgery, at
a cost of £834 by Mediescapes India. We traveled to Mumbai
and back, First Class, with Etihad Airways, the official UAE Airline
with whom I had traveled before, with a stop over at their hub in
Abu Dhabi for circa £1,800 each.
We were met at Mumbai Airport on the 25th July ’05 by Mediescapes
India International Patient Cell Representative and transported
in an air conditioned Limo to the Hospital, where we were installed
in a suite room, with a separate couch -cum - bed for my wife on
the 16th Floor of the Jaslok Hospital overlooking the Mumbai sea.
From that moment we were treated with the utmost care and attention
and immediately visited by Dr. Ameet Pispati who is a young Doctor
with impressive qualifications including being a member of the FRCS
(Ortho) UK, and who had studied and trained in the UK at Southampton
and Birmingham (with Dr. Derek McMinn who was the first to fit the
metal on metal “Birmingham Hip”).
Indeed, although all three Surgeons I consulted in the UK would
not recommend a Birmingham Hip for me because of my age, Dr. Pispati
advised that he had fitted them up to age 73 and subject to seeing
me was advising a Birmingham Hip as it would give me greater mobility
and 25 years before any further treatment was likely.
On the 28th July I had my Birmingham Hip fitted with an epidural
(my choice) and the following week I had a cataract removed in my
right eye and a new lens fitted, in the same hospital, whilst my
wife had her Lasik Treatment (advance Wavefront technology) on the
29th July.
The total cost including everything and 5 nights in the five star,
Taj Lands End hotel, booked by Mediescapes India and some extra
Physiotherapy came to circa £13,000 and both my wife and I
(who now reads without glasses and apparently I have 20/20 long
vision and drive without glasses) need only small magnification
for reading and computer work, and I am already walking, without
much assistance from a stick.
We are very pleased with the whole trip and would not hesitate
to recommend Dr. Ameet Pispati and Mediescapes India.

American patient on his Birmingham
Hip Resurfacing Joint treatment in India @ Wockhardt Hospitals
After having been diagnosed with Osteo- arthritis in my left hip
2 years ago we began to look at the inevitable solution which would
be surgery. The Wockhardt Group came to our notice after seeing
an article about Mediescapes India in Strategic Health Care Marketing
Journal published from Rye, NY on 'Medical Tourism' in India. This
lead to look at the their website and after reading the details
of Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai and the orthopaedic team led by Dr. Malhan, we decided to
make enquiries.
From that point the whole experience has been one of total professionalism
at all levels. The International Marketing cell of Mediescapes India
answered all questions both medical and personal promptly and precisely.
We were picked up at the airport in the dead of night and whisked
(if that is the right word for Mumbai's roads) away to the hospital.
There was a brief administrative procedure to complete and then
upto the room. The rest of next day was taken up by medical checks,
x-rays etc. and a visit from the surgeon Dr. Malhan and his team.
The Birmingham Hip Resurfacing operation was carried out on subsequent
day and after only 2 days I began physiotherapy treatment with Dr.
Ritu all throughout the nursing care has been faultless led by the
sister incharge Gayathri. We received regular visits by other members
of the medical team as well as the Head of Nursing on her rounds.
Mediescapes Mumbai representative also made regular get well calls
to ask about my progress. The support services of housekeeping,
maintenance and catering were all first class providing a total
service that would be difficult to match.
In conclusion, I have no hesitation in recommending to anyone considering
hip surgery, the services of Mediescapes India and Wockhardt Hospital
and would encourage you to make the decision and place yourself
in the expert hands of this world class medical tourism team. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Mediescapes India website has been very informative
and appealing to our needs. All emails messages with Mediescapes
was promptly replied back to us, well explained each steps as
how to go about with my joint replacement procedure in India
including recuperative travel arrangements done by them. Dr.
Suryanarayan and his team at Apollo Hospital, Chennai were superb. All details that I asked
to my Indian orthopaedic surgeon pre and post my resurfacing
surgery were explained with utmost attention. I would highly
recommend Mediescapes India and my case surgeon to the highest
degree to fellow patients wishing to come to India for their
respective treatments.
My personal apprehension at the onset of considering hip
resurfacing procedure, hospital stay, recuperation holidays at

suffering with Arthritis of my Hip, I was informed I required Hip
Resurfacing surgery. As this option was only available in 12
months within the USA. I researched Mediescapes India
offered services for best Orthopaedic Hospitals in India who can
take up my case. I received prompt emails and hospital information
prior to leaving home, which answered all the relevant questions
including direct information from Dr. Bose himself, giving me
extra reassurance.
The Pre-operative and Post-operative care has been very
impressive. The staff and personal associated with the hospital
have been extremely supportive. I am now looking to return to the
UK to lead a normal life with all mobility restored.”
